This isn’t for me, this is for my fiance’s four year old cousin. (Which is why there is no picture.)
The other night her dad was getting her dressed for the day and he suggested a pair of pants for her to wear.
She just looked at the floor and shook her head no.
He asked why, and she responded, “They make me look fat.”
He told us it took everything he had to not cry in front of her. He just sat down, held her, and told her she was not fat.
She is only four, but she is a head taller than everyone else her age. She is kind of chubby, but she is solid and has a never ending supply of energy. She goes to gymnastics every week.
One of the kids at gymnastics always picks on her and calls her fat, and the instructor gets on to him and tells her she isn’t.
And when she went to the doctor for her nose bleeds he kept saying to her mom that she was overweight, and overweight kids have more problems, and overweight and overweight. Not thinking how it would affect her.
She is four. She should not have to be going through this shit so fucking young. (pardon my language.)
It makes me sad that low self esteem starts so young, when all she should be worrying about is having fun and running around.
She has such a loving family and we are lucky to be around such a happy little girl, but I’m not sure how long she will be happy when she thinks she is “fat”.
